To create a safer, secure, and transparent healthcare supply chain, various state health departments and medical corporations have adopted barcoding on all packaging levels as part of their drug procurement guidelines in the tenders that have been published. We facilitate the implementation of these requirements by the manufacturers.
The Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare issued a notification (dated: 3rd June, 2025) which states QR codes to be affixed on the retail packaging (either primary or secondary) of insecticides. These QR codes should include at least the product’s unique identifier or GTIN, batch number, date of manufacturing, date of expiry, and a web link or URL. This directive aims to ensure that chemicals for agricultural use, for pest control operators, for house hold use, for public health, and for others, are authentic and of high quality.
GS1 India did a comprehensive feasibility analysis of Central Ammunition Depot’s (CAD’s) logistics and warehouse management processes and systems in 2022. The project was instrumental for the Indian Army to enable real-time traceability of its ammunition throughout the supply chain using RFID tags and reduce inventory errors, which were earlier caused during the manual process.
The Indian Army is also implementing unit-level traceability as per GS1 standards for food/non-food ration items being supplied. Watch how the Indian Army has successfully executed this.
The Ministry of Ayush issued a draft notification dated 14th February 2025 and has mentioned QR codes may be used as an alternate option for displaying ingredient details on Ayurveda, Siddha, and Unani drugs. The Ministry aims to enable easier access to detailed information and better readability of drug ingredients with a simple scan.
